Tarver was the assistant coach at Wenonah High School from 2004 to 2011, where he led his team to three final appearances and a state championship. As Gadsden State’s head coach, he has led the Cardinals to six winning seasons and coached the 2023 Alabama Community College Player of the Year.

Coach Tarver has excelled in his education and in basketball as a player and coach. In 1989, he was awarded The Birmingham Times Athlete of the Year in basketball and baseball and was inducted into the 2012 Miles College Sports Hall of Fame. He holds associate, bachelors and masters degrees.

Tarver wears many hats in the athletic department and with his men’s basketball program. As a coach, father figure and mentor, he considers an athlete’s personal development an important part of his role and encourages them to pursue career and life goals.

Tarver is the grandfather of Kaleb and Khrystian, who enjoy watching him coach the Cardinals.
